WATSEKA – The Paxton-Buckley-Loda softball team swept a doubleheader against Watseka on Friday.
The Panthers won 11-1 in game one and 15-4 in game two.
Baylee Cosgrove hit two home runs in game two, including a grand slam in a second inning in which PBL (9-3) scored eight runs to extend its lead to 9-0. Araya Stack and Carly Mutchmore each hit an RBI single during that inning as well, and Cosgrove also hit a solo home run in the first inning of game two.
Stack finished with three RBIs while Averi Garrett had a double and an RBI and Jasmine Miles had two RBIs and three walks in game two. The Panthers drew 13 walks and produced six hits during the second game while Lorena Arnett went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Emma Steiner pitched all five innings in each game. She struck out eight batters and walked three while allowing one unearned run on two hits in game one and allowed four runs – three earned – on two hits and eight walks with seven strikeouts in game two.
Steiner also hit 2-for-3 in game one as PBL finished with seven hits.
The Panthers took a 4-0 lead with four runs in the second inning of the first game, including an RBI single by Christina White. Kayla Adwell hit an RBI single in a fifth inning in which PBL tallied five runs.
Garrett had two RBIs during game one while White had a hit and two RBIs, Carly Mutchmore went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Garrett had two RBIs.
