Larry E. Carter, 66, of Paxton, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on December 19, 1958, in Paxton, the son of Donald and Jeanette (Schroeder) Carter. He married Cindra Peters on May 13, 1988, in Paxton.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cindra Carter; three children, Preston (Julie) Carter, Zachary (Alicia) Carter, and Tabitha Renfrow (Bobby Magers); his father, Donald Carter (who was remarried to Carolyn Daniels, who passed away); nine grandchildren, Mya, Lane, Emmy, Beau, Brynn, Brooks, Austin, Dylan, and Autumn; and five great-grandchildren, Aden, Austin, Anna, Zeppelin, and Jaxon. He is also survived by two sisters; Preston and Zachary’s mother, Linda Carter; and his beloved pets, Harley and Sammy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Carter.
Larry worked for Kraft Foods for over ten years. He later owned and operated two trucking companies, Carter Trucking LLC and All United LLC. He was a well-known athlete in Paxton throughout his junior high and high school years. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, sitting around bonfires, fishing in his pond, and being with his dog, Harley, and his cat, Sammy. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini basketball and football teams. In recent years, he had become interested and passionate about today’s politics.
Larry helped implement the American Legion Riders Group and spent six years operating Helping Hometown Heroes, a program supporting local veterans. He also supported Gold Star Mission.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A donation was made in Larry’s name to the K9 Warriors, from the Angel Warriors. K9 Warriors provides service dogs for veterans.
