Paxton Police Blotter: Paxton man arrested for DUI, cocaine

PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

— Juan Carlos Lopez Suentes, 27, of Paxton, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving with no valid driver’s license and attempting to flee or elude a police officer, plus was ticketed for operating an uninsured vehicle and no valid registration, during a traffic stop at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, May 5, near the intersection of Patton and College streets on Paxton’s southeast side. The traffic stop was conducted after police patrolling the area saw Lopez Suentes driving a 1996 Ford Ranger with no registration displayed. After police activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of Railroad and Dawn avenues, Lopez Suentes refused to pull over. After police eventually blocked in his vehicle and removed him from it, Lopez Suentes smelled of alcohol. Also, 1.5 grams of powder cocaine was found inside a folded-up $1 bill in his possession. Lopez Suentes submitted to field-sobriety testing, which police said he failed, and was arrested and taken to the Ford County Jail, where he submitted to a breath test that revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.16 — twice the legal limit. The vehicle that Lopez Suentes was driving was impounded by police under city ordinance.

— Jennifer J. Rodriguez, 27, of Paxton, was arrested for driving with no valid driver’s license and ticketed for expired registration, illegal transportation of alcohol and operating an uninsured vehicle during a traffic stop at 6:21 p.m. Saturday, May 4, near the intersection of Franklin Street and Railroad Avenue. The traffic stop was conducted after Paxton police patrolling the area noticed Rodriguez driving a 2008 Honda Fit with registration expired since 2020. During the traffic stop, police confirmed Rodriguez’s Illinois driver’s license was expired since 2018, as well. Found in a search of the vehicle — which was impounded by police under city ordinance — were open containers of Miller Lite beer and 99 Brand banana- and cherry-flavored drinks.

— Alex J. Riblet, 38, of Paxton, was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and ticketed for operating an uninsured vehicle during a traffic stop at 9:40 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the 200 block of West Patton Street. The traffic stop was conducted after Paxton police patrolling the area saw Riblet, whose license they knew was suspended, driving a 2010 Mercury Milan with extremely dark window tint. During the traffic stop, police confirmed that Riblet’s Illinois driver’s license was suspended. The car that he was driving was impounded by police under city ordinance.

— Molly L. Chumbley, 29, of Paxton, was arrested for domestic battery, unlawful interference with the reporting of domestic violence and criminal damage to property on Thursday, May 2, after Paxton police responded at 4:16 p.m. to a report of a physical altercation between Chumbley and another household member at a residence in the 100 block of West Franklin Street, during which Chumbley allegedly knocked a cell phone out of the victim’s hand while they were trying to call 911.
