HUMBLE, Texas – Brysen Butler of the Central Illinois Track Club finished 25th with a time of 4:38.65 in the 14-year-old men’s 1,500-meter run at the AAU Junior Olympic Games on Tuesday, July 29.
Butler finished first in section two of the race. There were four sections.
“I think I did pretty well,” Butler said. “I think I prepared myself mentally better than I had in any other race. I think I felt better than most of the other people during their race. I was happy to race that day. I really liked the people I raced with. I thank the people who have been cheering me on.”
In the 800-meter run on Monday, July 28, Butler – who is entering his freshman year at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School – finished 45th with a time of 2:16.18.
Last spring, Butler was a Twin County Conference champion in the 1,600- and 800-meter runs as a GCMS eighth-grade track runner as well as a Sangamon Valley Conference champion and a third-place finisher at the IESA Class 3A Watseka Sectional in the 1,600-meter run.
This fall, Butler – along with upcoming senior Keegan DeWall, who won the age 17-18 division of the 1,500-meter race in the AAU Jackie Joyner-Kersee National Showcase earlier in July – plans to run cross country for the Falcons.
“I’m going to try to get a few more people to join with me,” Butler said.
