GCMS pitchers toss one-hit shutout in 2-0 win over Tri-Valley


DOWNS – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley varsity softball team won 2-0 over Tri-Valley on Wednesday.

With the win, the Falcons claimed a Heart of Illinois Conference championship with a conference record of 8-2 and an overall record of 16-6-1.

Brayden Elliott and David Hull combined to pitch a one-hit shutout for GCMS (16-6, 8-2 Heart of Illinois Conference) as Elliott struck out 11 batters and walked three through 6 2/3 innings while yielding Tri-Valley’s lone hit. Hull picked up the save as he walked no batters through one-third of an inning.

Elliott also hit 2-for-3 and drove in a run via a base hit to left field in the fifth inning to extend GCMS’s lead to 2-0.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Zach Price hit a leadoff single and Graydon Leonard reached base on an error before Carter Kallal scored on an Isaiah Johnson groundout.
