FISHER – The Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team’s regular-season finale was a record-setting one.

The Bunnies’ first goal in a 9-0 victory Wednesday over Blue Ridge was scored by Chase Minion with 34:52 left in the first half. Seth Kollross was credited with an assist on the goal.

With the assist, Kollross set the school record for most assists in a career with 40 assists, breaking the previous mark of 39 held by Jay McDevitt since 2005.

Kollross started every game since his freshman year.

“It’s pretty amazing that he can come in as a freshman on a pretty good team and contribute,” Fisher/GCMS head coach Robbie Dinkins said.

Kollross started at the defensive/mid position, but took over at the center/mid position after Alex Minion graduated in 2021.

“He’s done a heck of a job doing it,” Dinkins said.

While Kollross has 20 assists this season, Minion has 19 for a Bunnies (18-4-1) team that broke the program’s single-season record for assists earlier in the season.

“They’re very unselfish,” Dinkins said. “That’s the way Seth Kollross plays. When you have one of your leaders playing like that, it spreads throughout the formation with the other guys. It’s pretty amazing to see a kid be unselfish like he has been over the four-year span and lead in that way, and not worry about getting goals.”

The shutout was Fisher/GCMS’s 14th of the season, which tied the school record for most shutouts in a season. The Bunnies yielded only one shot on goal as Easton Stroh made a keeper save after taking over behind the net for Sid Pfoff in the second half.

“Our defense has done a really good job, especially with Sid Pfoff back there, and with the experience of Connor Ray, Payton Darling, Parker Snyder and Zack Zbinden,” Dinkins said. “David Hull does so many things at the stopper position that many people don’t see. He’s so aggressive and physical. He has that I’m not going to lose mentality, and you love to see that from a kid.”

Isaiah Johnson scored off a Zach Barnes assist with 32:52 left in the first half before Zach Barnes scored off a David Hull assist with 29:52 remaining in the half.

Minion scored his second goal of the match via a Caleb Zwilling assist with 27:21 left in the first half before Hull, a defenseman, scored off a Barnes corner kick with 20:15 remaining in the half.

“Overall, it was nice to see some of the defenders get some opportunities to score because they do a great job on the back line, and they don’t always get the glory when it comes to goals,” Dinkins said.

Minion completed the hat trick off a Barnes corner kick with 17:13 left in the first half as Fisher/GCMS took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Zwilling scored off a Martise Evans assist in the 52nd minute before Zack Zbinden scored off a Spencer Kleist assist in the 67th minute and Lane Beyers scored off a Logan Heath scored in the 80th minutes.

“We got some goals early, and then we got some of the younger guys some playing time, which is nice because they always do a really good job of supporting the guys that are out there,” Dinkins said.

The blowout win came only one day after a 1-0 victory on Tuesday over an Oakwood/Salt Fork team that entered Fisher with an 18-3-1 record.

“It was going to be interesting to see how they came out after playing a really good game against Oakwood,” Dinkins said. “You could tell the guys were a little sore from all the energy they spent throughout that game, but overall, I thought guys that started the game came out ready to go.”

The Bunnies ended the regular season on a six-match winning streak and have won 13 of their last 14 matches going into the IHSA Class 1A Fisher Regional, which will be held on Fisher/GCMS’s home field

“It’s a great season so far, but now everybody’s 0-0,” Dinkins said. “It’s on to the next one.”

Third-seeded Fisher/GCMS will face either 12th-seeded Blue Ridge or sixth-seeded St.  Joseph-Ogden in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. next Wednesday. The winner will play for the regional championship at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

“We’re definitely looking forward to it. You always love the postseason. Anything can happen. We’ve got a really tough regional, like always.”
