PBL senior Losa Suaava to play basketball for Eureka College

PAXTON – Losa Suaava signed her letter of intent to play for the Eureka College women’s basketball team on Friday.

“I’m very excited for it,” Suaava said. “It’s something I’ve been looking forward to.”

Suaava said she looked at other colleges before making her decision to go to Eureka.

“The main thing that sold me was the coach and the whole environment,” Suaava said. “Coach (Jaylynn Stewart) is really sweet. She’s always been out there. She’s always been talking to me. I wanted to have a great environment to grow in.”

After helping PBL win an IHSA Class 2A regional title in her junior year Suaava did not have the chance to play any sports for her senior year after rupturing an ACL last summer. She will be cleared to play before Eureka College’s season starts in October.

“At first, I was struggling, but now, I’m getting a lot better,” Suaava said. “Having a major injury is nothing to be taken lightly, and it’s been one of the hardest things I’ll probably ever have to go through. It’s just hard trying to relearn how to walk and run. I even had to relearn how to bend my own knee and straighten it back out.”

Suaava, who plans on pursuing a career in nursing, said she will miss PBL.

“I’ll miss the memories, but I’m ready to move on to a new chapter in my life,” Suaava said.
