HOOPESTON – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Middle School baseball team won 7-5 over Hoopeston Area in the IESA Class 2A regional quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Falcons will play in the regional semifinals at St. Joseph at noon Saturday.
After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, GCMS started its rally with three runs in the second inning, including an RBI single by Carson Young. In the third inning, the Falcons tied the game at 5-5 as Carson Sexton hit an RBI single and Drew Ward sent Dayne White home for the tying run with a bases-loaded walk.
White hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to send Brandon Boma home for what would be the game-winning run. Sexton sent Boma home for an insurance run in the sixth inning via an RBI double.
Sexton finished the game hitting 3-for-4 while White hit 2-for-4.
On the mound, Cameron Kaeding earned the win as he allowed five unearned runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts through 5 2/3 innings. Ben Roesch picks up the save as he allowed no runs on no hits and no walks with four strikeouts through 1 1/3 innings.
